TQ #3

The technology planning at this stage looks at presenting a tangible evidence of the schools’ resources. One of the main issues that I came across with was finding accurate and relevant information about the school district that our group is working on. At times, due to the one page limitation, I had to synthesize relevant information into a couple of lines, while leaving other facts aside. It has not been an easy task to get a clear picture of the actual people that were the motors of change in the current administration. Surely the task of sharing the information and providing timely feedback is sometimes a drawback for members of a committee to advance in the design of a plan. The implementation of a technological plan that connects to the curriculum and boosts the benefits of technology is a major endeavor.

The assignment and distribution of sections in the documentation were based on the familiarity of the topics. Stacy, being the one that worked on campus was in charge of getting the technological facts of the district. Paige, with her experience in the management area took responsibility for the policies, teacher support, funding and summary. Finally, I took the task of setting the scene and presenting important preface information about the context of the district, the history, mission and basic infrastructural facts.

As a result of this part of the report, it is evident that teachers have been exposed to technology for some time. However, many teachers still lack the expertise to decide what, how and when to use it in their own teaching practices. The current plan will firmly recommend exhaustive teacher training in the areas that the teachers themselves identify that technology can be of use.

I completely agree with what Miguel is saying. I know how hard it was just for me to get ahold of the technology department in a timely fashion to get the information we needed. I can't even imagine what it must take to agree on a technology plan for a whole district. I do feel that Miguel did an excellent job with his part of the project. It must be hard for Miguel and Paige to just look at paper and understand how it all works. I even noticed that just within the elementary schools, there were differences in how technology is used. Technology is definitely the wave of the future, but it's hard to implement it correctly in the classroom and be trained on it properly. It all takes time and money. A lot of what we don't have. Thanks Miguel for all your hard work.
