Educational Technology Philosophy

When I think about educational technology, I imagine devices and applications used in the classrooms and homes that enhance student learning. Tools that allow students to develop their interests and passions in creative and collaborative ways. With the advent of new software available in education, teachers are now able to gather data that can allow them to shape classroom instruction.

I also believe that new adaptive tools will be more prevalent in the near future, allowing all students to engage in more personalised learning experiences and freeing teachers to target instruction and offer better interactions with their students. We should harness the power of technology to help students develop agency so that they can take ownership of their own learning. Technology is always opening new windows in the education world. However, in order to take full advantage of the affordances it brings into schools, we need to remember that clear learning goals and objectives as well as a sound unit or lesson plan still drive classroom engagement and not devices or applications.

Finally, I am truly energized by the challenges of keeping up with educational technology and using it to lead the way of meaningful and valuable teaching and learning.
