As we reach the end of the semester, I have to say that the course of Planning for Implementing Technology in School Settings has allowed me to gain a better understanding of the processes involved in bringing forth tech changes in schools. The books that we have used in class contain valuable information that portrays the different approaches to using technology, both the consequences of chosing incorrect paths to technology implementation as well as some adequately documented case studies and experiences that I can certainly use as examples in my future career. I must confess that reading the additional books has awakened an interest in learning about visionary ideas that can give insight on the benefits and drawbacks of technology.
The presentation of news at the beginning of each class has allowed me to realize the varied fields that is within technology reach. This has been an area of special interest that I have discovered. One of the reasons that persuaded me to go back to being a student is that I was feeling the need to acquire the good habits that only experts have. This course has taught me to stay focused in the news, in the media; in the watch for new ideas and projects. Hence, I have taken notes of all the things that we did in class and look forward to designing a comprehensive interface of RSS feed news, to keep me in the right track.
For me, small groups work better than big groups. The task of the wiki book has been a bit hard to assemble. I wish I had had more control over the development of the assignment. I found it hard to find examples of Tech Plans to get a better understanding of the sections. I don't think the team approach is a bad idea, it's only that we could have done a better job if we had used at least 20 min to make the necessary coordinations, taking advantage of everyone's presence in the class.
The blogs in general were a very good instrument to synthesize information from the Thoughtful Questions and assignments. It was really important for me to read the blog posts from my group, but I also took a look at what other people were doing. Having the posts available for everyone to see has been an excellent idea.
As an overall thought of my experience, I truly enjoyed the hard work, long hours of readings and new information on the effects of technology. It has been interesting to learn from all the examples that were shared in class. I look forward to embarking in new directions next semester.
