Tech Boot Camp for New Students - How it works

The Student Technology Advisors are a team of MS students who are appointed by the MS Technology and Learning Coordinator, Mr. Zambrano, to support new students during the Technology Boot Camp month (September). This year, the Grade 8 Ambassadors have received this responsibility. They will use this Haiku class called Technology Boot Camp for Students listed under the Extras tab to help students complete two checklists: Getting Started and Computer Basics.

STAs will be sending a presentation email to their assigned tutees and get together with them for a few sessions during the month of September. Once the checklists are completed, students will sign them and return to Mr. Zambrano.

Sample STA Letter of Presentation Sep 2014
STAs used this sample message to contact their tutees. They were encouraged to customise their own letter. They turned out to be very creative at personalising them.

Checklist 1: Getting Started
This checklist goes through all the access checks that students go through when they receive their laptops when school starts.

Checklist 2: Computer Basics
This checklist is more related to the operation of the Mac and how students organise themselves.

MS new students
This is the list of new students and their STAs. All new students highlighted in green have completed the tech boot camp.

We still have more that two weeks to go. One difficulty has been scheduling contact time. Many students are really busy after school and lunch time meetings are hard due to difference in lunch start and ending times. However, we hope to push forward and get all new students done with the tech boot camp by the end of September.
